INNIO and VoltaGrid team up for power generation deal

INNIO has secured an order from VoltaGrid, strengthening their collaboration on scalable power solutions for AI-driven data centres.

INNIO Group has announced an order from VoltaGrid for 1.5 gigawatts (GW) of behind-the-meter power generation infrastructure. This deal aims to strengthen their ongoing collaboration in the provision of scalable solutions tailored to AI and high-performance computing data centres.

The agreement outlines the delivery of 300 Jenbacher gas engines from INNIO's Type J624 and Type J620 series. The J624 engines are set to be integrated within VoltaGrid's proprietary QPac platform, which seeks to enable swift and scalable deployment. These engines, modularised into 25 MW units, are primed for deployment across data centres within the United States, with completion anticipated by 2028.

Developed through joint efforts, the solution is engineered to strengthen data centre rollouts and GPU utilisation for workloads driven by AI. The platform merges INNIO’s Jenbacher technology to deliver primary, backup, and peaking power, all within a singular system designed for operational flexibility. This integrated system maintains optimal power and efficiency, even at elevated ambient temperatures, and effectively manages the rapid load fluctuations characteristic of AI computing environments.

“This landmark order underscores the strength of INNIO’s technology and our commitment to power the growth of AI,” said Dr. Olaf Berlien, President and CEO of INNIO Group. “We are proud to deepen our collaboration with VoltaGrid as we help shape the evolution of energy infrastructure.”

“This is a major step forward in building the energy backbone for the AI era,” said Nathan Ough, CEO of VoltaGrid. “Together with INNIO, we are delivering a scalable, grid-grade solution that offers fast response and eliminates the need for batteries."

The collaboration with VoltaGrid also enables the integration of its power pack units with large-scale portable data centre power systems. This alignment incorporates INNIO technology to support energy infrastructure for data centre operations.
