Six Degrees Group solves sensitive data compliance issues for two London local authorities

Converged technology infrastructure provider uses IL2 (OFFICIAL) measures to protect social welfare data and children’s education records.

Six Degrees Group (6DG) has delivered its secure private cloud infrastructure to two London boroughs. The deployment ensures sensitive data is protected, stored and managed in line with mandatory CESG data compliance requirements.

With the government tightening its focus on managing great volumes of sensitive, personal data, Local Authorities (LAs) are coming under intense scrutiny to ensure they comply with government legislation. From applications supporting benefits information to databases holding children's education records, security of data is becoming increasingly vital to the day-to-day running of Central and Local Government. 6DG has therefore deployed a private cloud environment to protect and manage the data to IL2 (official) standard.

The complex IL2 (official) certification is regarded throughout Central and Local Government as a necessity for security best practice. Rather than being a general grading that providers can reach, solutions must be assessed on an individual project basis. The IL2 (official) certification for the LA contracts therefore encompasses the specific 6DG team, systems of management, processes and mechanisms that are used to keep these particular customers’ data secure.

Designed to cope with complex data at every stage in its lifecycle, the 6DG solution provides the high level of security required and ensures that the confidential information of residents is protected from unwarranted disclosure at all times.

A fundamental piece of the IL2 (official) certified solution delivered by 6DG is its proprietary data centre facilities in Birmingham and London, both of which offer true gate-to-rack security. These facilities are fully controlled and managed by 6DG giving public sector bodies peace of mind as data sovereignty and data security has been achieved.

Campbell Williams, Group Strategy and Marketing Director at 6DG, said: “We are pleased to be delivering a secure cloud infrastructure to two key London boroughs. It is imperative that the data of the general public meets the demands of IL2 compliance measures and is protected 24/7. Our services ensure that the boroughs concerned can safely store the data of their residents and that residents themselves can feel confident that their information is in safe hands.”
