Atos is first IT company to obtain BCR Certification

Atos says that it is the first IT company to obtain the Binding Corporate Rules (BCR) approval for processing personal data on behalf of its clients and for itself. The approval covers the worldwide operations of Atos Group including Atos Worldgrid, Canopy and Worldline, and has been granted by all European data protection authorities. It is recognition that Atos strives for the highest level of protection for all the personal data processed on behalf of its clients across all its services, including cloud computing.

Thierry Breton, Atos Chairman and CEO, said: “Personal data is a valuable asset making data protection one of the top priorities for organisations today.

This BCR certification recognises the strength of our global data protection policies, procedures, training, and all the measures that we take at Atos to create a real data protection culture within our company to safeguard our clients’ data across all our solutions and services. The certification demonstrates to our clients that they can trust Atos when asking to process personal data on their behalf.”

BCR – the world’s leading standard for personal data protection - are designed to allow multinational companies to transfer personal data from the European Economic Area to their affiliates located elsewhere in the world in compliance with local data protection regulations. In order to be certified, companies must demonstrate to all local data protection authorities that BCR are not merely principles and commitments but actions that have been implemented to ensure adequate safeguards for protecting personal data throughout the organisation.
