Opengear expands family of PTCRB and carrier-certified cellular out-of-band solutions

Opengear says that key cellular out-of-band management products have been awarded PTCRB industry certification in addition to being certified by major wireless carriers for use across their networks.

The PTCRB certification is mandated by network operators for the marketing of GSM-based cellular products in the Americas and many European countries. PTCRB is a global organization providing an independent evaluation for GSM/UMTS Certification.

This latest round of certification applies to the IM4200-G Infrastructure Management product line as well as Opengear’s ACM5504-5-LA-I Remote Management Gateways. The latter now include 4G LTE support, a recent but crucial upgrade that offers higher connectivity speeds and up to 20 times lower latency than 3G connections. Opengear remains the only vendor offering remote infrastructure management solutions with 3G and 4G LTE support integrated into its cellular products.

The IM4200 family of infrastructure management products serves data centers, enterprises, telcos, cellcos, laboratory and campus sites. The ACM5504 line provides out-of-band management to regional and distributed branch offices, data closets, stores and outlets (in addition to serving edge devices, unmanned sites, and teleco/cellco field infrastructures).

“Network outages are going to happen – hopefully not often – but they will happen,” said Rick Stevenson, CEO of Opengear. “But giving IT administrators access to data centers even during network downtime provides critical resiliency and enables businesses to maintain continuity. Having out-of-band access to distributed remote sites lets operations staff diagnose and fix issues much more quickly. Opengear is already ahead of the curve in providing 4G LTE out-of-band connectivity, and earning these PTCRB certifications further increases the value of our remote infrastructure management solutions.”

In addition to the PTCRB industry-wide certification, which is administered by CTIA, Opengear’s cellular out-of-band products also have FCC regulatory approvals and GSM 2G(GPRS/EDGE), GSM 3G (HSPA), and GSM 4G (LTE) carrier approvals.
