Airedale by Modine introduces modular CDU design

Airedale by Modine unveils a modular skid-based CDU, offering capacities from 2MW+, enhancing flexibility for global data centers.

Airedale by Modine, a leader in critical cooling solutions, has revealed an extension to their liquid cooling coolant distribution unit (CDU). The new modular, skid-based design caters to capacities of 2MW+, aiming to provide increased flexibility for customers around the globe.

The introduction of this high-capacity design allows for manufacturing at various Airedale by Modine facilities in Europe, North America, and Asia Pacific. This expansion broadens the product range to three standard footprints, supporting scalable capacities from 400kW up to 2MW and beyond, with a precise 4K approach.

Each CDU unit is engineered to offer longevity and performance, incorporating premium components such as stainless steel pipework, 25-micron filtration, and active harmonic filtration. The robust liquid cooling solution promises an enduring lifecycle, potentially exceeding 15 years with proper application and use.

The growing trend within data centers sees operators strategically positioning CDUs in 'grey spaces', like corridors and plant rooms, to enhance spatial flexibility. While in-row CDU configurations remain popular, the new skid-mounted design, with its open architecture, simplifies maintenance access.

According to Richard Burcher, Product Manager at Airedale by Modine, "We're seeing operators rethink traditional layouts to unlock greater efficiency and resilience. By relocating CDUs to less congested areas of the data centre, they're not only improving accessibility for  maintenance but also future-proofing their infrastructure with scalable solutions, high redundancy solutions."

Equipped with integrated intelligent controls, Airedale by Modine CDUs can network up to eight units, adapting to growing demand seamlessly. The units are compatible with site-wide building management systems (BMS) for effortless integration. Moreover, they utilise the Redfish protocol to communicate early fault signals, ensuring optimal uptime through coordinated efforts.

Maintenance is streamlined with a dedicated ‘maintenance mode’, allowing safe servicing without disrupting operations, contingent on adherence to all safety protocols.

All Airedale by Modine CDUs are meticulously engineered for hyperscale, colocation, and neo-cloud environments. Customizable options include redundancy, filtration, material selection, flow rate control, temperature management, and overall performance to cater to specific operational demands.
