Telenor’s Finnish subsidiary KNL has successfully secured orders totalling €15 million under a ten-year framework agreement, enhancing Nordic collaboration between the Finnish and Swedish Armed Forces. As the geopolitical climate grows increasingly uncertain across Europe, the demand for robust and independent communication capabilities is imperative for national and regional security.
With these contracts, KNL demonstrates the epitome of Nordic innovation. Known for its advanced high-frequency (HF) communication systems, KNL ensures quick connectivity in less than a second, facilitating encrypted and interference-resistant communication. The recent agreements focus primarily on portable HF military radios that are pivotal in regions without conventional infrastructure.
The contracts form part of a broader ten-year arrangement with NORDEFCO, a body that orchestrates Nordic defence cooperation aimed at streamlined procurement and heightened interoperability. The possibility of extending this agreement to encompass additional NATO nations is currently under consideration. The initial order deliveries are set to be completed by year's end.

Since its acquisition by Telenor in 2020, KNL has focused extensively on secure defence communications. Besides collaboration through NORDEFCO, the company is currently conducting trials alongside Norway’s Defence Research Establishment (FFI) and liaising with several NATO affiliates.
