NTT Ltd. further expands its data centre footprint in the UK

Opening of NTT’s 7th data centre in the UK is scheduled for Q4 2021.

Global Data Center, a division of NTT Ltd., has begun construction of its Hemel Hempstead 4 Data Center, located close to London, with plans to open end 2021. Hemel Hempstead 4 Data Center will join NTT's other UK expansion project, London 1, due to open this autumn 2020, alongside its five existing data centres in Hemel Hempstead and Slough. NTT is investing a total of around £500M on these expansion projects in the UK market. Together NTT’s London hub of data centres will deliver a total of over 100 MW IT load once fully completed.

This current UK expansion is part of the ongoing growth strategy of the Global Data Centers division which operates the third-largest data centre platform in the world, with over 160 data centres spanning more than 20 countries and regions. The new Hemel Hempstead 4 Data Center will offer flexible, scalable data centre space, with options for high power density, to meet its clients growing demand for scalable and reliable data centre services in the UK market.

Hemel Hempstead 4 Data Center, like all other NTT’s UK data centre sites, will be connected to our multi service interconnection platform, providing access to multiple carriers and the major cloud providers. Due to the proximity to the other NTT data centre locations in Hemel Hempstead, Slough and Dagenham in East London, the facilities are directly interconnected with one another. This makes it possible to run dual site environments and to mirror the systems operated in these data centres, supporting the market’s need to protect their growing volume of data with more resilience and disaster recovery capability.

NTT's aim in this project is also to build data centres with the lowest environmental impact, thus offering its clients modern cooling methods for continuous improvement of energy efficiency and maximum power density.

Once fully built out, Hemel Hempstead 4 Data Center will have 9,600 sqm of available data centre space and will support 24 MW of IT load. The opening of the first phase is scheduled for Q4 2021.

“We continue to expand to meet the demand from our clients for high quality data centre space, and to protect the growing volume of their sensitive data“, said Florian Winkler, CEO EMEA of the Global Data Centers division of NTT Ltd. “The UK is one of our fastest growing markets and we are pleased that the expansion in Hemel Hempstead will offer our clients additional space to support their digital business.”
