Colt Data Centre Services launch extensive expansion at its London North Data Centre

Expansion at the London flagship data centre expected to complete in April 2019.

Colt Data Centre Services (DCS) is to build six new data halls at its London North data centre. The six halls form part of the first phase of a major expansion project at the site which will comprise in total 10 new data halls. In addition, a major power upgrade is underway that will see the site almost double its utility power, by adding an additional 30 megawatts (MW). The delivery of the first two halls is expected in Q1 next year and remainder being delivered in Q2 2019. On completion, the project will bring the total IT power supply to more than 40MW.

The build of the six new halls have been driven from anchor customer demand, with the first four halls already taken by an existing tenant. The new phase supports Colt DCS’ commitment to deliver carrier-neutral, super-fast connectivity to hyperscale cloud providers. The London North data centre provides multi-tenant colocation facilities, with state-of the-art mechanical and engineering equipment supporting the operational delivery facility. Due to the efficiency on the design, the annualised design PUE of the facility is <1.2, being below the current industry average. The total power provision of the site itself will increase from 38MW to 68MW, that’s enough power to supply to 250,000 households in the UK.  London North Data Centre also uses intelligent security monitoring systems and is certificated with ISAE 3402, ISO 14001, ISO 20071 standards.

“London North is one of our busiest data centres due to the scale and location of the facility. With demand for cloud services growing exponentially, we are investing heavily in this facility to expand our data centre facilities to serve our customers better,” said Detlef Spang, CEO at Colt DCS.

“We are committed to providing our customers with carrier-neutral connectivity services on demand. Our strategic alliances with the array of carriers, cloud service providers and internet exchanges we are working with globally allows us to provide a secure gateway for our customers to scale and expand into new markets and business opportunities.”
