Interxion invests in Stockholm

Interxion has decided to invest 300 MSEK in a new data center in Stockholm.

The new data center, located in the Stockholm Data Parks area, will have a total capacity of 3.5 MW and be designed to ensure reuse of the data center waste heat. The excess, water based, energy will be sold to Fortum V?rme, the local district heating company, and used to heat offices and households in the Stockholm area.

“We are excited to extend our cooperation with Interxion to increase the reuse of data center excess heat, resulting in significant environmental and economic benefits. A 10 MW data center load in Stockholm Data Parks could heat 20,000 modern residential flats and would, thanks to Sweden's low electricity prices (< ˆ0.04/kWh) and the paid-for heat recovery, allow such a data center to achieve an OPEX saving of 50-100 MEuro over 10 years compared to other key locations,“ says Erik Rylander, Head of Stockholm Data Parks at Fortum V?rme.
