Fake Facebook sites account for 60% of social network phishing in early 2018

In the first quarter of 2018, Kaspersky Lab’s anti-phishing technologies prevented more than 3.6 million attempts to visit fraudulent social network pages, of which 60% were fake Facebook pages. The results, according to Kaspersky Lab’s report, ‘Spam and phishing in Q1 2018’, demonstrate that cybercriminals are still doing what they can to get their hands on personal data.

Over a third of companies employ Managed Security Services

Alert Logic has published data from Crowd Research Partners’ 2018 Threat Hunting Report that shows 84 percent of companies agree that threat hunting should be a top security initiative, yet 76 percent believe their Security Operations Centres (SOCs) spend inadequate time proactively searching for newly emerging and advanced cyber threats. This discrepancy has one-third of companies employing managed security services to hunt cyber threats, according to the survey data.

Attacks leveraging exploits for Microsoft Office grew fourfold in early 2018

Exploits – software that takes advantage of a bug or vulnerability – for Microsoft Office in-the-wild hit the list of cyber headaches in Q1 2018. Overall, the number of users attacked with malicious Office documents rose more than four times compared with Q1 2017. In just three months, its share of exploits used in attacks grew to almost 50 per cent - double the average share of exploits for Microsoft Office across 2017. These are the main findings from Kaspersky Lab’s Q1 IT threat evolution report.
