Centec Networks and EmbedWay have jointly introduced the ExSwitch6400 series 10GE SDN white box solution, the industry’s first high-density 10G/40GE open-networking platform with native 100GE (4x25G SerDes) uplinks. The EmbedWay ExSwitch6400 series switches fill an important gap in the SDN market for flexible, cost-effective, open-networking solutions that meet the demanding requirements of enterprise and telco datacenters without tying them to proprietary solutions.

“EmbedWay is one of Centec’s leading ODM partners, and the company shares our deep commitment to a global open networking ecosystem that gives our customers rich product implementation and deployment options while eliminating the traditional problems of vendor lock-in,” said Tao Gu, vice president of business development with Centec. “This is the first of what we anticipate will be many successful collaborations with EmbedWay, as we take advantage of the unique capabilities of Centec’s GoldenGate terabit switching silicon to help solve SDN challenges while delivering on open networking’s promise, including the freedom for customers to choose the hardware and network operating system solutions in each layer of the network solution stack that best meet their needs.”

“SDN white box switches are a key piece of our growth strategy as we serve customers worldwide with some of the industry’s most advanced intelligent system solutions,” said Barry Li, Director of Network & Embedded Computing BU with EmbedWay, “We are pleased to be working with Centec to combine their leadership in terabit switch silicon and SDN white box solutions with our expertise in network visibility infrastructure and platforms for embedded and convergence computing. We will be bringing the ExSwitch6400 series to the OCP community and look forward to working with Centec on more contributions in the future.”

The EmbedWay ExSwitch6400 series fully supports OCP hardware design guidelines, including OCP’s Open Network Install Environment (ONIE) for ODM and other bare metal switches using multiple operating systems such as OpenSwitch. It also supports OCP’s Switch Abstraction Interface (SAI) to standardize the switch software development kit (SDK) interface. Centec’s GoldenGate silicon minimizes the ExSwitch6400 switch’s latency and power consumption, and the switch is optionally extensible with an Intel CPU card that ideally positions it for data center top of rack (ToR) switching as well as network functions virtualization (NFV), hyperconvergence, and security appliance applications.

“The EmbedWay ExSwitch6400 series is a powerful new design combined with Intel’s high-performance CPU and DPDK toolset for the fast-growing SDN/NFV market,” said Tom Xiong, Marketing Manager of DRD with Intel. “Centec’s GoldenGate silicon brings terabit non-blocking data processing capability to the platform. We believe the ExSwitch6400 series will be a very competitive new 10GE SDN white box solution for high-performance network applications including NFV.”
