The ultimate in DCI scalability?

ADVA Optical Networking has unveiled its new MicroMux(TM) module - the latest addition to its FSP 3000 CloudConnect solution. The module provides 'unprecedented' client port flexibility for data center interconnect (DCI) applications without compromising power, space or spectral efficiency.

The active QSFP28 adapter has been specifically designed to convert 100 Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) client ports into either 10 x 10GbE ports or 2 x 40GbE ports. This capability is key for internet content providers (ICPs) and cloud service providers (CSPs) that need DCI infrastructure that can both support current service demands and effectively scale for future growth. Until now, this has been a difficult balancing act that often led to inefficient use of space, power and, ultimately, inflated operating costs.

"From day one, our FSP 3000 CloudConnect platform has been built directly with some of the world's leading ICPs and CSPs. It's this direct dialogue that has made our DCI technology so successful," said Christoph Glingener, CTO, ADVA Optical Networking. "Our MicroMux module is the latest example of this. It's an entirely unique device that drives our DCI solution even further ahead of the field. With one single QSFP28 module, customers are now able to convert a 100GbE client port into either 10 x 10GbE ports or 2 x 40GbE ports. This is true scalability. What's more, it can be done without any detriment to the incredible data or power density of our FSP 3000 CloudConnect platform. This is unmatched in the industry. There's simply no other vendor that can do this."

The ADVA MicroMux module was developed to meet one single purpose - support existing client ports without lowering key efficiency or density metrics. This is something that no other vendor in the industry can deliver. The ADVA FSP 3000 CloudConnect platform now offers 10GbE, 40GbE and 100GbE client ports with unmatched energy efficiency, density and openness. There is no loss of total system capacity and no stranded bandwidth. ICPs and CSPs now have access to one DCI solution that meets all of their legacy needs and future demands. What's more, it's still the only open optical line system on the market and the only one that supports all the industry's open protocols.

What stands the ADVA FSP 3000 CloudConnect(TM) further apart is its true flexibility. The new ADVA MicroMux module is available in both single mode and multimode and this is a key consideration for distance. The ADVA MicroMux module transports data over short reach, intermediate reach (40GbE) and long reach (10GbE). This is a key feature request from ICPs and CSPs as today's data centers contain both single mode and multimode fiber. Its flexibility also extends to the mixing of client ports. ICPs and CSPs can seamlessly mix 10GbE, 40GbE and 100GbE clients into the ADVA FSP 3000 CloudConnect(TM)'s single 400Gbit/s line card without any footprint increase - another vendor first. The ADVA MicroMux module is also able to aggregate asynchronously or independently clocked 10GbE and 40GbE traffic. Collectively, this provides ICPs and CSPs with the most flexible DCI solution available.

"What our team has achieved with the ADVA FSP 3000 CloudConnect is unparalleled and clearly underlines the ingenuity of our DCI engineering talent," commented Stephan Rettenberger, VP, marketing, ADVA Optical Networking. "Although our new MicroMux module is small, it has the potential to make a huge impact. It has the potential to drive real change. Until now, ICPs and CSPs have struggled to balance current need with future demand. Any false moves here often result in poor use of space, power and increased costs. However, our MicroMux module completely eliminates this balancing act. ICPs and CSPs can now fully maximize space, power and data density. Until today, no one else in the industry has been able to deliver this."
