CA Technologies names Otto Berkes Chief Technology Officer

Otto Berkes has been named chief technology officer of CA Technologies, effective 15 June, 2015. Berkes will be based in New York City and report directly to Chief Executive Officer Mike Gregoire.

“Otto is a respected technology visionary and a coder at heart. He is one of those rare individuals whose technical creativity and leadership led to one of the world’s best-loved products,” said Gregoire. “Otto believes in relentless focus on customer experience and the kind of cutting-edge engineering that will drive CA to new levels of innovation in the Application Economy. We are delighted to welcome him on board.”

Berkes most recently served as the chief technology officer at HBO, where he was responsible for the development of HBO GO, as well as all of the company’s technology efforts including media production, internal business systems and technology operations. During his tenure, HBO GO® became one of the most popular streaming services in the U.S.

Prior to HBO, Berkes spent 18 years at Microsoft. He is one of the four original founders of Xbox. He held a number of senior level positions at Microsoft, including senior software developer, partner-level architect and general manager. His responsibilities at Microsoft included leading the DirectX and OpenGL graphics technology development organizations in Windows, developing mobile architectures and user interfaces in Microsoft Research, and driving advanced development while reporting to Microsoft chief software architect Ray Ozzie. Early in his career, Berkes served as a senior developer at both Autodesk and Vermont Microsystems.

Berkes earned a bachelor’s degree in physics from Middlebury College in Vermont and a master’s degree in computer science and electrical engineering from the University of Vermont. He holds seven patents spanning design, user interaction and core computing.

“This is an incredible time to join CA as it is building some of the strongest products in its history," Berkes said. "As CTO, I intend to work with CA's outstanding technologists to build on that foundation and to accelerate the company's offerings enabling the ongoing software transformation of business. I can’t wait to get started."
