European Food Safety Authority chooses Unisys consortium for IT services and support

Consortium to support EFSA’s IT operations and the delivery of scientific food advice for the protection of European consumers.

Unisys Corporation's subsidiaries in Belgium and Italy have been awarded a multi-million Euro contract as part of a consortium that will deliver IT services and support for the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), the EU risk assessment body for food and feed safety. The new contract will run for three years with the option to extend it for an additional three years.

The consortium, consisting of Unisys Italia, Unisys Belgium and MAPS Spa, will work with EFSA to modernise its infrastructure and applications. Starting with an analysis of EFSA’s current IT requirements, the consortium will deliver technology to improve communications and transparency for its stakeholders – such as consumer groups and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) – and to meet the future needs of the organisation.

The consortium will also provide a range of end user services for around 470 EFSA employees, including IT service management, service desk and desk-side support to assist them in their day-to-day operations, including the delivery of independent scientific advice and communications on risks related to food in the EU.
Bart Steukers, General Manager, Unisys Continental Europe, said: “We always strive to look beyond our clients’ immediate challenges and develop an IT strategy that not only addresses their current demands but also has the scale to support them in the future. We look forward to working with EFSA to optimise its infrastructure and support its mission to ensure food safety in Europe.”
