Businesses are streaming to the cloud, says Onyx

A leading provider of IT infrastructure to UK businesses has seen a marked increase in the number of companies moving towards cloud based services and technologies.

Onyx Group, which has a data centre in Rotherham, says the number of businesses taking up its Cloud Hosting and Backup services has increased by 60 per cent in the last 12 months.

The change means more companies are moving away from traditional hardware-based solutions to those delivered as a service, offering greater reliability, lower costs and improved security.

Neil Stephenson, CEO at Onyx Group, said: “Many IT solutions are now delivered as a service with no requirement for the businesses to invest in their own infrastructure.

“No longer do we have to hold backup tapes, which typically have a 40 per cent failure rate, backup strategies can now be cloud based. Moving hosting and backup to the Onyx cloud means that the IT department can focus on supporting the business growth not worrying about the investment and support needed to run an in-house IT infrastructure.”

Onyx Group offers a variety cloud packages for businesses from its state-of-the-art Yorkshire Data Cetnre, including options of; Public Cloud which is internet shared service, a Private Cloud infrastructure dedicated for a single organisation within a data centre environment and Hybrid Cloud, the use of both private and public clouds together.

Neil added: “Onyx Group was one of the early suppliers of cloud and data centre services in the UK. We have therefore had to maintain our market leadership by actively investing in award winning infrastructure over the years.

“The reliability and security of a cloud solution provides businesses with confidence that critical business data and applications are safe, accessible and secure whatever happens.”

A six-figure investment in 2013 was made to enhance Onyx Group’s Cloud platform with Hitachi Data Systems hardware and grow their data centre estate, with further development of the Edinburgh and Rotherham sites, bringing their overall hosting space to 70,000sq ft.

Onyx Group’s South Yorkshire facility offers businesses access to a 250-seat workplace recovery centre and a 320 rack state-of-the-art Data Centre.

The company, which celebrates its 20th anniversary this year, has seen turnover approach £20million in 2013, an increase of 13 per cent on the previous year.
