CSC and VMware partner on hybrid clouds

The pair come together to provide greater interoperability between their cloud services

Despite claims that the cloud increases operational flexibility and agility the reality can sometimes be that all it increases is the number of technology silos that a user business signs up for. What users really is the ability to exploit the most appropriate cloud – or on-premise - service that fits the tasks at hand, rather than the work as best as possible with the technology allowed by the silo the business finds itself in.

That is why attempts are now appearing to build bridges between different cloud services infrastructures, with one of the latest coming from IT services provider, CSC. It has extended its partnership with VMwarewith the addition of what it calls a hybrid cloud brokering solution for VMware vCloud Hybrid Service. This provides interoperability with CSC’s ServiceMesh Agility Platform.

“Building on our longstanding partnership, we are pleased to work closely with CSC to help organizations realize the value of the hybrid cloud, which can remove traditional barriers to innovation, and help accelerate new application time-to-market, all while enhancing the relationship between IT and the business”

The solution will enable customers to develop and move workloads on any combination of vCloud Hybrid Service, CSC BizCloud, and CSC CloudCompute, as well as other commercial cloud offerings. CSC will also add to CloudCompute byreselling VMware vCloud Hybrid Service.

Both companies will collaborate to train key technical personnel in how to support users.

The ServiceMesh Agility Platform automates the deployment and management of enterprise applications and platforms across private, public and hybrid cloud environments. It provides a single control point for governance, compliance and security across a customer’s cloud applications and environments, giving the business fully governed, self-service access to applications, platforms, and services.

Since CSC’s BizCloud and CloudCompute offerings are certified vCloud Datacenter Services, the addition of vCloud Hybrid Service enables efficient migration of workloads between the CSC and VMware cloud offerings, which are based on common cloud infrastructure.

“VMware vCloud Hybrid Service is ideal for VMware customers moving workloads from traditional data centers to the cloud,” said CSC’s Eric Pulier, vice president & general manager, Cloud. “ServiceMesh enables these same customers to eliminate application change requirements when targeting other non-VMware based workloads and applications for the cloud. This demonstrates the real value of the hybrid cloud.”

According to Bill Fathers, senior vice president and general manager with VMware’s Hybrid Cloud Services Business Unit, the vCloud Hybrid Service provides the architectural flexibility for companies to match private cloud environments and move workloads without friction. With BizCloud and CloudCompute, CSC was the first global systems integrator to offer a certified VMware vCloud Datacenter cloud service.
