Commvault announces new AI capabilities for data and recovery management

Commvault has released details of AI capabilities focused on managing data, agents, and recovery processes in enterprise environments.

Commvault has announced new AI capabilities as part of Commvault Cloud, aimed at supporting organisations adopting AI while maintaining oversight of data and agent activity.

Many organisations face challenges balancing innovation with the risk of exposing sensitive data. According to Deloitte, 60% of AI leaders cite risk and compliance concerns, along with legacy system integration, as key barriers to adoption. In response to these challenges, Commvault has introduced three capabilities: Data Activate, AI Protect, and AI Studio.

Data Activate enables organisations to classify data and prepare datasets from protected backup copies. These datasets can be formatted for use with AI data platforms, helping keep AI pipelines aligned with approved data. The capability is built on Commvault Cloud’s zero-trust architecture and is intended to support controlled data use.

AI Protect is designed to help organisations identify vulnerabilities, assess the impact of agent-driven changes, and carry out recovery processes. As AI environments become more complex, it provides visibility by discovering and inventorying agents and mapping their activity across AI systems.

AI Studio enables organisations to create and use custom agents for specific use cases. These agents integrate with existing enterprise systems using Commvault’s Model Context Protocol. The capability supports a broader approach to managing AI workflows, including data activation, governance, and recovery.

The capabilities are designed to support organisations managing AI across on-premises, SaaS, and hybrid cloud environments, with a focus on data oversight, agent management, and recovery processes.
