Constl advances India's digital frontier with Ciena's WaveLogic 6 Extreme

Constl's deployment of Ciena’s WaveLogic 6 Extreme marks a significant milestone in optimising India's digital infrastructure, enhancing both capacity and efficiency.

In a strategic move to leverage India's rapidly expanding digital landscape, Constl, a subsidiary of Space World Group, has successfully deployed Ciena's WaveLogic 6 Extreme (WL6e) solution. This follows a groundbreaking trial, demonstrating a 1 Tbps line rate over a single optical channel across the 1,450 km Mumbai–Chennai route—a key corridor for digital infrastructure. Importantly, the trial was completed without requiring signal regeneration.

Since its inception in 2023, Constl has been at the forefront of reshaping India's connectivity landscape, deploying more than 12,000 km of fibre, and linking around 100 data centres across 13 Indian cities. This is bolstered by Ciena's cutting-edge optical technology, which positions Constl to further expand its terrestrial fibre network and deliver 800GbE services—critical for the burgeoning AI era.

Ankit Goel, leading Space World Group, highlights that this milestone enables a major expansion of the network's capabilities, aligning with the demands of the AI-driven market. Meanwhile, Amit Malik from Ciena underscores the partnership's role in crafting networks that meet hyperscaler requirements.

Beyond the enhanced line rate, the use of WL6e technology scores on multiple fronts: doubling fibre wavelength capacity from 800 Gb/s to 1.6 Tb/s compared to the WaveLogic 5 Extreme.

  • Efficiency Gains: The solution significantly reduces the cost per bit, optimising financial inputs.
  • Improved Spectral Efficiency: This ensures that more data can traverse the same optical spectrum.
  • Environmental Impact: A notable reduction in power consumption highlights its role in sustainable tech deployments.

Constl's relentless efforts in modernising India's infrastructure have not just heightened capacity. They stand as a testament to the high-quality fibre infrastructure underpinning the nation's digitalised future.
