Air India group bolsters sustainability with SITA's innovative solutions

Air India Group enhances sustainability and efficiency by implementing SITA OptiFlight® and eWAS technologies across its fleet.

In response to soaring fuel costs and the increasing urgency to curb carbon emissions, airlines globally are striving to enhance operational efficiency. The Air India Group is tackling these challenges head-on by integrating SITA OptiFlight®'s advanced climb optimisation solution, OptiClimb, alongside SITA eWAS. These sophisticated, data-driven solutions represent some of the most cutting-edge flight optimisation tools available today.

This integration forms a vital component of Air India Group's comprehensive modernisation strategy, marking significant progress in both sustainability and operational performance. Currently, these technologies are operational across the Air India Airbus A320 and Air India Express Boeing 737 fleets, encompassing both domestic and international routes, with subsequent deployment planned for the widebody fleet. Impressively, these tools are poised to reduce the carrier's carbon emissions by 35,000 tonnes annually.

The aviation industry faces mounting regulatory and environmental pressure, making intelligent, predictive solutions critical. According to Sumesh Patel of SITA, Air India's implementation of these digital technologies exemplifies how tech can cut emissions, conserve fuel, and enhance operational value across every flight.

SITA OptiFlight® offers a suite of intelligence tools for optimising crucial flight phases through historical flight data and aircraft-specific models. Central to this is OptiClimb, which delivers tailored climb-out schedules for each aircraft, enabling pilots to minimise fuel consumption during one of the most energy-intensive flight stages without undermining safety or performance.

SITA eWAS provides pilots with real-time weather updates and predictive forecasting, aiding navigation through turbulence and enabling efficient re-routing and smarter in-flight decision-making. Combined, these solutions empower pilots with a data-driven advantage while aligning with the airline's sustainability initiatives.

In supporting the Indian aviation sector, SITA continues to broaden its flight optimisation technologies, assisting in achieving operational resilience, cost efficiency, and reducing the long-term environmental footprint.
