Dell and Intel's research reveals AI integration opportunities with Windows 11 migration

A study reveals significant benefits and challenges for U.K. businesses transitioning to Microsoft Windows 11 with AI-capable PCs.

Recent research from Dell Technologies and Intel highlights an opportunity for U.K. businesses to upgrade their PC fleets using AI-capable systems during their move to Microsoft Windows 11. A significant 71% of U.K. IT Decision Makers (ITDMs) perceive this transition as a crucial upgrade moment.

The ‘Windows 11 and AI PC Readiness Report’ indicates that 64% of businesses consider running AI applications effectively as critical to their operations. The perceived key advantages of adopting AI PCs during migration include enhanced security features (47%) and increased employee productivity (44%). These findings underscore a dual focus on bolstered cybersecurity and workforce empowerment.

"The migration to Windows 11 is a key moment for U.K. businesses to align their technology with their strategic ambitions,” said Steve Young, Senior Vice President and U.K. Managing Director for Dell Technologies. "This research shows that forward-thinking leaders are looking beyond the immediate deadline, seizing the chance to upgrade to AI-capable systems to enhance security, improve efficiency and boost productivity."

However, although 79% of organisations have begun or already finished their migration, 20% remain inactive ahead of the October 2025 deadline. Concerns about software and hardware compatibility (45% and 34%, respectively) and potential operational disruptions (32%) are prevalent among respondents, despite acknowledgements of the bonuses from enhanced security features.

“In addition to losing technical support, inaction means businesses may rely on less secure devices that can’t keep up with the latest applications," said Louise Quennell, U.K. Senior Director, Client Solutions Group for Dell Technologies.

With small businesses facing unique hurdles, only 38% see Windows 11 as a gateway to refreshing their PC fleet with AI capabilities, unlike medium (72%) and large businesses (79%). Fewer small businesses are currently planning an immediate fleet refresh, highlighting a need for thorough evaluation and cost-benefit analysis before committing to the upgrade. Further, small businesses are less likely to have started their transition to Windows 11 with a high proportion not considering it at all

The study surveyed 1000 UK IT Decision Makers online, between 3rd to 9th of June. 15% were from small businesses while 32% and 53% were from medium and large businesses respectively.
