Palo Alto Networks, a renowned leader in AI cybersecurity, has embarked on a collaborative venture with the UK's Ministry of Justice (MoJ) to fortify the security and reliability of its digital services. This partnership is part of a broader initiative to revolutionize the ministry's networks and security frameworks, resulting in significant advancements.
The project involves close cooperation with Justice Digital's Digital Infrastructure and Security Operations team. This department is committed to delivering enhanced, straightforward, and expedited services to over 96,000 users, spanning 1,200 entities, including courts, prisons, and probation services among others. Following the deployment of Palo Alto Networks Prisma® SASE and Cortex XSIAM®, the MoJ has witnessed a remarkable 400% hike in automatically resolved security incidents daily. Additionally, dedicated internet access through SD-WAN circuits has achieved a fivefold increase in average bandwidth.
The MoJ, a longtime user of Palo Alto Networks' Next-Generation Firewalls (NGFWs), has opted to broaden its collaboration by adopting Prisma SASE to drive its network security modernization. This strategy entails merging SD-WAN and Security Services Edge (SSE) into a cloud-delivered, unified SASE solution. The outcome? Enhanced resilience, advanced AI security services, and superior oversight for 13 organizations housing over 800 live services and 130,000 devices.
Furthermore, the MoJ has restructured its Security Operations Centre (SOC) to bolster proactive threat detection and management. Palo Alto's AI-centric security operations platform, Cortex XSIAM, plays a critical role, supporting components like Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) and real-time risk evaluation.
“Given the critical nature of the MoJ’s work, security is a big focus,” said Nava Ramanan, Deputy Director Digital Infrastructure and Security Operations for the Ministry of Justice. “We are prioritising fundamental principles like cloud-first, secure-by-design, and a zero trust security model. This ensures that our infrastructure remains secure and resilient, but also aligned with the latest technological advancements including AI related innovation.”
Echoing this sentiment, Helmut Reisinger of Palo Alto Networks elaborated on building an effective SOC with state-of-the-art threat intelligence and monitoring capabilities, resulting in measurable improvements for the MoJ including mean time to detect, and respond to threats.
Looking ahead, the MoJ intends to securely link all departmental facilities with distinct data and application accesses. Under this vision, Prisma SASE will facilitate rapid and dependable integration of 34 affiliated agencies and public entities.
