Digital Realty has taken a decisive step in sustainable energy management by committing to PPC’s innovative 24/7 hourly renewable energy matching program. The move empowers its Athens-based data centers with verifiable clean electricity, enhancing its real-time alignment and sustainability reporting.

The strategic adoption by Digital Realty broadens their ongoing efforts with similar initiatives in France and Sweden, bolstering transparency and accountability in renewable energy utilization. These endeavors echo the company's commitment to enhancing the clarity of sustainability reporting, aligning closely with the needs of precision in renewable energy tracking.

Offered by PPC, Southeast Europe's preeminent electric utility group, the service enables prominent corporate clients like Digital Realty to ascertain and certify the source and time of their renewable energy usage. This precision is achieved through leveraging PPC’s renewable energy infrastructure alongside advanced tracking tools, realizing more granular sustainability reporting for progressive energy management.

The program includes the comprehensive handling of Guarantees of Origin (GOs), propelled by sophisticated software from Granular Energy, facilitating real-time monitoring of renewable energy production and its associated carbon footprint. This initiative empowers participants to report their Scope 2 emissions conscientiously and affirm progress on net-zero ambitions with assured credibility. Such actionable insights bring newfound accuracy and transparency to correlating energy consumption with clean energy supplies.

“This program with PPC strengthens our commitment to transparent and data-driven energy sourcing,” said Alexandros Bechrakis, Managing Director, Digital Realty in Greece. “It helps us support our customers’ renewable energy goals with credible, hourly-matched clean electricity – delivering greater visibility into how and when clean energy is being used across their digital infrastructure.”

The partnership with PPC positions Digital Realty as a significant proponent of regional, hourly energy matching, steering best practices in energy sourcing. It strives to support a more resilient and decarbonized power matrix by marrying real-time consumption with renewable generation, conceiving potent signals for clean tech innovation and infrastructure.

This initiative reflects Digital Realty’s steadfast loyalty to meet science-aligned carbon reduction targets, embedding seamlessly within its ambitious sustainability framework aimed at attaining carbon neutrality. The company currently achieves 100% renewal energy offset across its European operations, underscoring its commitment to sustainable and responsible operational standards.
