CyrusOne publishes 2023 Sustainability Report

Report highlights new achievements and accomplishments from 2022.

CyrusOne has published its 2023 Sustainability Report, highlighting the company’s commitments to the environment, the community, and stakeholders. The annual report provides insight into CyrusOne’s efforts to build resilience not only in data center operations, but also within local communities and the natural environment.

“I’m proud of what our team has achieved over the last year, helping CyrusOne to meet far-reaching sustainability goals in addition to keeping pace with customer priorities, technological innovations, and government standards,” said Eric Schwartz, Chief Executive Officer of CyrusOne. “These achievements demonstrate our commitment to customers and regulators and have real benefits to our business and being a part of a more sustainable future.”

2022 was a year of key milestones for CyrusOne’s sustainability programs with important achievements in each of its “Big Four” environmental categories: climate, water, biodiversity, and circularity.

Highlights of the CyrusOne 2023 Sustainability Report include:

Climate: 2022 marked the first full calendar year for CyrusOne achieving 100% renewable power for our facilities in London, Dublin, and Amsterdam, with Amsterdam having never operated on traditional power. This means that CyrusOne met its climate neutral commitments to the Climate Neutral Data Centre Pact 8 years ahead of schedule. We also made significant strides with regards to the terms laid out in the Climate Neutral Data Centre Pact (CNDCP). In April 2023, CyrusOne was the first to inform the CNDCP Board that all its fully operational data centres in Europe have been independently audited to comply with the Pact’s terms.

Biodiversity: In 2022, CyrusOne continued to find ways to meaningfully contribute to improving diversity. Our early efforts in biodiversity planning paved the way for additional responsible development in the London area. The confirmed project for our sixth facility in London will have 23,000sqm of woodland, 64,000sqm of acid grassland, 600+ native planted trees and an attenuated pond resulting in a biodiversity net gain of 130%.

Operations Certifications: For all new facilities we design and construct in Europe, we are targeting BREEAM Very Good certification. Furthermore, our new facility in Madrid is acting as a pilot development for BREEAM Spain and will become the first data center in Spain built under the BREEAM Data Centres International accreditation.

Benefits of Sustainability: The report illustrates how ESG initiatives support CyrusOne’s business by improving resilience and increasing customer satisfaction.
