EfficiencyIT, a specialist in data centre design and build, edge computing environments and IT services, has today announced it has won ‘IT Systems Reseller and Managed Services Provider of the year’ at the 2019 SDC Awards 2019. Now in itsfourth year of operation, the award recognizes the company for its expertise within the critical infrastructure space and its focus on delivering highly resilient, energy efficient digital transformationsolutions to customers.
“I’m both honored and grateful to have accepted this award on behalf of EIT,” said Nick Ewing, Managing Director, EfficiencyIT. “The award is testament to the hard work and expertise of our team, our culture of adding value, and to the trust that customers place in us to keep their most critical IT systems online, ensuring they perform as efficiently and resiliently as possible. A huge thank you goes out to all of the industry peers, the partners and to the clients that have supported us from the start.”
At the SDC Awards, EfficiencyIT also received a second accolade for ‘Edge Project of the year’,awarded in collaboration with The Wellcome Sanger Institute and EIT’s Vendor partner, Schneider Electric. Based at the Wellcome Genome Campus in Cambridge, The Wellcome Sanger Institute is one of the world leaders in genomic research, dealing with some of the greatest medical research questions and challenges in human diseases, including cancer, malaria, measles and cholera.
The sheer volume of data produced by the Institutes fleet of sequencing machines and the speed at which it is generated, requires use of an on-premise data centre with massive storage and processing capabilities. Here an outsourced, or cloud-hosted option, could not deliver the ultra low latency required by local applications and could incur significant connectivity costs.
Additionally, the sequencing machines, which produce vast quantities of genomic information each day, are critical to the research operation, so must be protected from loss of power at all times. An outage would require expensive chemicals to be replaced quickly and could potentially mean loss of precious raw data.
Under the watchful eye of EIT, The Wellcome Sanger Institute have deployed APC by Schneider Electric Smart-UPS™ uninterruptible power supplies to provide resilient power protection in theresearch labs and utilise Schneider Electric’s EcoStruxure IT™ next-generation DCIM platform, with its artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) capabilities, to proactively manage the data centre and minimise downtime.
“The data centre and IT systems play a crucial role in the day-to-day operation of almost every function on the campus,” said Simon Binley, Data Centre Manager, Wellcome Sanger Institute. The guidance, expertise and service that Sanger continues to receive from EfficiencyIT remain second-to-none. We consider them not as an external service provider, but as a key partner who are focused on the same principles as us. This ensures that the research institutions and the scientists based here can continue their work without interruption, finding cures to some of mankind’s most destructive diseasesand improving health outcomes for us all.”
“We are honored to have won this award in collaboration with the Wellcome Sanger Institute and our elite channel partner EfficiencyIT." said Marc Garner, VP Secure Power Division, Schneider Electric UK&I. "The work that the Institute undertake on behalf of humankind is truly incredible, their data centre team and the success of the IT operation plays an integral role in the research function.”
