Altaro launches freeware solution to back up physical servers

Companies with virtualised environments can now also use Altaro to back up their physical machines.

Altaro VM Backup is well-established as the virtual machine (VM) backup solution for Hyper-V and VMware. Now, Altaro is also enabling customers to back up their physical servers through its latest offering, Altaro Physical Server Backup – with the plus point that it is free of charge.

Companies with virtualised environments sometimes also have some physical machines and these too require data protection. The preference is often to achieve this via the same vendor.

Freeware physical to virtual (P to V) solution

As a physical to virtual - or P to V - solution, Altaro Physical Server Backup meets this need by permitting users to back up physical servers and restore the backed up physical server to a virtual environment.

This initial release is being offered as freeware, with community forum support. Future releases of this product will include additional functionality.

"We are delighted to expand our portfolio of backup solutions by providing our customers and partners with a reliable physical server backup solution, enabling them to back up their physical servers and restore them in virtual format," said David Vella, Altaro co-founder and CEO.

Coming up – multi-tenant VM and physical backup solution

"We will continue adding to this product's feature set, with the first step coming up later this year," he revealed. "We'll be releasing integrated physical server backup functionality in Altaro VM Backup for MSPs, so that managed service providers (MSPs) and IT consultants can centrally manage and monitor all their customers' physical server backups alongside their Hyper-V and VMware VM backups, through our multi-tenant cloud management console."
