Richmond Housing Partnership builds a better tenant experience

Non-profit housing organisation reduces data centre footprint by 80% with Rubrik’s Cloud Data Management Platform; Is able to redirect 55% of maintenance budget to value-creating innovation and customer support initiatives.

Rubrik, the Cloud Data Management company, has been selected by Richmond Housing Partnership (RHP) to protect Windows, Linux, SQL, Exchange and other business critical applications for its 100% virtualized environment. The implementation has already exceeded its expectations and allowed the non-profit to redirect funds previously spent on IT maintenance to improve customer service.

Established in 2000, RHP is a non-profit housing organisation located in the United Kingdom. Headquartered in Teddington, it owns 10,000 properties with operations in Richmond, Hounslow, Brentford, Slough, and Reading. RHP has won several awards for its commitment to being an excellent service provider, including a prestigious UK Customer Experience Award.

RHP receives 100,000 calls from tenants every year, so providing world-class customer service around the clock is top of its agenda. There is no room for system downtime or outages; tenants need access to RHP’s housing application management app and its call centre operators rely on access to tenant data and its customer relationship management (CRM) system. Therefore, its infrastructure and networking team’s primary role is ensuring constant accessibility to tenant data and customer service applications.

However, the team’s previous backup solution was unreliable, time-consuming to backup and recover, and often resulted in backups failing completely. The association now has piece of mind that should anything happen to its mission-critical applications, they can be quickly and easily restored by Rubrik and maintain business continuity.

“We’re passionate about giving our tenants the best service, which is why we chose Rubrik, a best-in-class solution. We were blown away when we first saw Rubrik; other vendors’ solutions paled in comparison,” said Riaz Ashruf, Infrastructure Manager at RHP. “Rubrik has given us total peace of mind and eliminated my fears about downtime. With its intuitive design, anyone on our team can easily use it.”

After utilising Rubrik, RHP was able to:
  • Reduce its total cost of ownership (TCO) by 55%. It achieved the savings by consolidating tape, backup software and servers onto one platform, eliminating increasing licensing and hardware costs.
  • Reduce its recovery time objective (RTO) from two hours with its previous legacy solution to seconds with Rubrik by seamlessly archiving data to Cloudian Hyperstore.
  • Deliver 5x faster backups and decrease time spent managing backups by 90%, giving the team more time to spend on innovation. With its previous legacy solution, two to three hours per day was spent on management, now the team spends just a few minutes per day.
  • Reduce its data centre footprint by 80%, from 10U to 2U, due to eliminating the storage area network (SAN).

Ashruf continued, “The money we’ve saved using Rubrik can be invested into better services for our tenants; as a not-for-profit, every penny counts. With Rubrik’s vendor-agnostic nature, our future plans to migrate legacy workloads to the cloud are easy realised, as we’ll be able to work with any private or public cloud vendor.”

“RHPs teams work hard day in and day out to ensure their tenants get the best customer service possible, but their legacy infrastructure was holding them back,” said Martin Brown, Director, Western Europe at Rubrik. “Now that they use Rubrik, their IT team has more time and budget to spend on migrating to the most innovative technology, safe in the knowledge that we are protecting their business critical data and enabling business continuity if an outage does occur.”
