Delivering secure apps from Microsoft Azure to any device

Future Citrix XenApp “express” offering will combine the simplicity and speed of Microsoft Azure RemoteApp with enterprise capabilities of Citrix XenApp.

Citrix has introduced a new cloud service that delivers secure apps from Microsoft Azure to any device.

This new application virtualisation service is part of a comprehensive Citrix Cloud strategy designed to simplify app and desktop delivery for every use case. The Citrix Cloud XenApp and XenDesktop service provides its enterprise customers with superior performance and flexibility by moving the backend infrastructure to the cloud.

Launching this new service, Citrix can now combine the power and flexibility of its Citrix Cloud platform - including the industry-leading HDX user experience - and extend the original simple, prescriptive, and easy-to-consume vision of Microsoft Azure RemoteApp by orchestrating applications in the cloud as well. This offering will radically simplify app delivery without sacrificing management or end user experience.

Citrix is committed to bringing a simplified management experience that will mirror many of the workflows existing Azure RemoteApp customers rely on. Microsoft and Citrix are working on a migration service to minimise disruption to existing RemoteApp customers. This new Citrix offering will also simplify app provisioning, enhance monitoring, strengthen security and optimise the app delivery experience.

By centralising and securing data on the trusted and protected Azure platform, application access and data stay safe in the cloud. This helps reduce the risk of information loss from lost and stolen devices. Designed for fault tolerance, leading governments, financial services organisations, and companies around the world rely on this platform.

In an effort to streamline efficiencies across all joint Citrix and Microsoft efforts, the new service is being developed in conjunction with the previously announced XenDesktop for Windows 10 on Azure service. Unifying both efforts showcases the strength of the integrated Citrix and Microsoft partnership as well as demonstrating the commitment from both companies to deliver the best possible application and desktop experience.

By integrating all these efforts across the board, both Citrix and Microsoft will be able to drive down the cost of app and desktop delivery while still providing enhanced security, management and application performance from one of the industry’s largest public clouds: Microsoft Azure.

Today marks a monumental shift in the mind-set of cloud-hosted, business application delivery. In the upcoming months at key industry events - such as the Microsoft and Citrix: Making Cloud Simpler, Business Faster virtual event in August 2016 and Microsoft Ignite in Atlanta, GA in September 2016 - both companies will share more information and details regarding this new service.
