Extending 'fast-track' virtualisation

Fujitsu Integrated System PRIMEFLEX vShape 5.2 now includes latest technology for increased flexibility, including a new backup option.

Fujitsu is widening access to quick and painless implementation of validated virtualised server and desktop infrastructures, with the popular Fujitsu Integrated System PRIMEFLEX vShape. New extensions to the well-established PRIMEFLEX vShape reference architecture include VMware vSphere 6.0 virtualisation software, and a new backup concept based on the Fujitsu Storage ETERNUS CS200c S2 Integrated Backup Appliance.

For customers interested in desktop virtualisation, PRIMEFLEX vShape now offers free choice between two certified options: VMware Horison® and Citrix® XenDesktop® Desktop Virtualisation Software. For bigger implementations of server virtualisation for large enterprises, IT services or cloud providers a new version is now available that can scale to 2400 Virtual Machines (VMs).
PRIMEFLEX vShape enables the consolidation of IT, which means businesses need less hardware and can make more efficient use of existing assets, reducing operational costs and efforts. To achieve this, the virtualisation reference architecture offers a simple concept with highly scalable industry-standard components including storage, networking and virtualisation software, all running on Fujitsu’s PRIMERGY servers. PRIMEFLEX vShape also provides the perfect foundation for private cloud. For reliability, peace-of-mind and to eliminate unnecessary risk, all these components are harmonised and validated as a single solution.

The newly-validated backup concept for vShape is based on the Fujitsu Storage ETERNUS CS200c S2 Integrated Backup Appliance which combines right-sized hardware, backup software and licenses into a complete backup solution enabling a fast and trouble-free setup of a comprehensive backup environment. While other vendors offer software separately, and require additional hardware and software for scenarios such as long-term data retention, all the required components are included in the ETERNUS CS200c purchase price. Deduplication technology and flexible licensing options also help meet customers’ varying needs.

Bernhard Brandwitte, Vice President, Global Storage Business at Fujitsu says: “Effective organisations take a holistic approach to virtualisation and cloud. When it comes to implementing virtual environments, the three key factors are performance, data availability and security. PRIMEFLEX vShape provides solutions for workload scaling from 25 up to 2400 VMs, with different options for server and desktop virtualisation. Fujitsu’s approach to delivering a business-centric infrastructure gives customers flexibility to best meet their unique business requirements. For example, our solutions have enabled several customers to realise objectives such as increasing system performance by 80 percent, achieving zero downtime, or lowering operating costs by 40 per cent.”

Customer feedback for PRIMEFLEX vShape highlights how a cost-effective, simple-to-deploy and easy-to-manage IT architecture removes the headaches of self-configuration, with design, integration and testing already undertaken and validated by Fujitsu. Today larger businesses are also under pressure to ‘do more with less’. So Fujitsu has now validated PRIMEFLEX vShape for large enterprises, enabling them also to benefit from this turnkey solution.

With hundreds of implementations around the world, many completed via Fujitsu’s SELECT Expert reseller partners, organisations of all sizes are finding vShape to be an effective way of addressing future data growth and capacity requirements without limiting performance or functionality. Customers benefit from a simple and fast process combined with easy, risk-free handling – allowing them to spend less time on IT maintenance and administration, and more time focusing on their core business.
