Antivirus and firewalls are no longer enough

Wick Hill named distributor for Avecto.

“In today’s more vulnerable, distributed network environments, firewalls and antivirus are no longer enough to secure companies against the growing problem of advanced persistent threats and increasingly sophisticated cyber attacks,” said Ian Kilpatrick, chairman of IT security value added distributor Wick Hill Group.

Kilpatrick was speaking as Wick Hill was appointed UK value added distributor for Avecto, and its Defendpoint software, a market-leading, next generation endpoint security solution. Designed to build on traditional security solutions such as antivirus and firewalls, Defendpoint uniquely combines privilege management, application control and sandboxing in a single integrated security suite.

“Avecto is leading the way with an integrated solution to the challenges of application control and sandboxing, coupled with a definitive solution to the problems of privilege proliferation and management. These are all challenges that organisations are having to address, due to the continuing increase in cyber threats and attacks. There is major interest in Defendpoint and we are delighted to be able to deliver it through and with our reseller channel,” added Kilpatrick.

Paul Kenyon, EVP of global sales at Avecto said: “With Defendpoint’s capabilities, we want to prove to the security community that prevention is possible. The demand we’re experiencing in the few months since we launched Defendpoint, is outstanding, and indicative of a shift in mindset that we’re seeing, particularly in the UK market.

“For too long, we’ve seen companies rely on passive and outdated tools, like detection technologies and antivirus. Many vendors talk about their ability to detect malware on the endpoint, but we feel the best approach is to prevent it executing in the first place.
"To continue to stay a step ahead of the threat landscape, we have to continuously innovate, something we've succeed in doing year after year. It's testament to this that we plan to double our revenue growth once again next year, and I’m sure Wick Hill will help us achieve those goals.”
Established in 2008, Avecto has grown rapidly and now has branches in the US, Australia and DACH region. Defendpoint protects over 5 million endpoints worldwide covering a huge range of industry sectors, including 1.2 million endpoints at the world’s largest banks. Recognition and awards for Avecto include a 2015 win at the Cyber Security Awards and being placed fourth in the 2014 Deloitte Technology Fast 50 list of the UK’s fastest growing technology companies.

Avecto is looking to continue its exceptional growth and has appointed Wick Hill to deliver the market-making channel development required to support that.
