Q I’m proud to work in the data centre/IT
industry because…
A I joined the network infrastructure
industry after university, which
has evolved into the Data Centre
industry, which is becoming the back bone of people’s every day life. From
processing credit/debit card payments,
to purchasing / streaming music /
video, to using cloud storage or seeing
what friends are up to via facebook.
Q You get to witness one event from
history – which one and why?
A Night the Berlin Wall came down. I
spent a significant about of time in
Eastern Europe pre and post the Wall
coming down. Saw first hand the
issues and poverty these countries
were experiencing, so would have
been highly emotional to of been there
as the East and West were reunited.
Q The weekend end is for winding down
or getting out and about?
A For getting out and about. Cannot sit
still, a day spent sitting down is wasting
time to me. I enjoy being out in the
fresh air either on the high seas or with
my Springer in the countryside.
Q Social media – a waste of time or a
valuable time?
A Social media is a great way of
keeping up to date with personal and
industry friends. I think people are
starting to question its value in
commercial terms. Excellent way of
ensuring your company name is kept
in the forefront of people’s minds, but
I’ve seen a lot of individual’s posts back
fire due to incorrect information and
poor quality of content/comment.
Q Dead or alive – the person you admire
the most?
A Steve Jobs. Built a business, got
pushed aside and came back to make
what today is the most valuable
company in the world.
Q One tech company to watch?
A Tesla – Saw the latest range of Tesla
cars recently; Amazing when you
consider they have come from
start up to miles ahead of the global
car manufacturers. That said, I’m more
excited about the new Power Wall
lithium Ion battery launched by Tesla
recently. This will revolutionise the
home renewable energy market and
am certain the affordable off grid
powered property will be available
from Tesla in the near future.
Q Favourite destination?
A I love going to Dubai, whether there
on work on pleasure. It’s only a
7 hours flight from the UK, the speed of
change is incredible, the architecture,
quality of everything and service and
sunshine 356 days a year.
Q Fitness or fatness?
A Fitness. As people say, “the
more you do, the more you can do’.
You can definitely feel you
energy levels rise when doing regular
exercise. Makes you sharp first thing in
the morning and last thing at night.
Q If you weren’t an IT exec, what would
you like to be?
A I’d be a sailing instructor in summer
and a ski instructor in winter; might be
difficult to do it the other way round!!
Q The saying or quote that inspires you?
A We make a living by what we get, but
we make a life by what we
give. Winston Churchill.
