Critical cooling for one of the world’s most prestigious universities

One of the most productive research universities in the UK, University College London (UCL), is undertaking an expansion project to support its research and development department. Temperature control specialist, ICS Cool Energy, recently supplied an efficient cooling solution for the clean room in the new physics department.

ICS Cool Energy has supplied a powerful 25kW IPi-D 308 CRAC (computer room air conditioning) unit to the university’s clean room, to provide both heating and cooling for its laser application. The laser must operate in a constant environment with steady temperatures due to the nature of the application.

Adam Spolnik, Company Director at ICS Cool Energy, explains: “The unit utilises intelligent inverter technology, meaning there is no need for large heating elements in the ductwork. It provides significant energy savings, and will do long into the future.

“Water temperature affects how accurately the laser works, and the CRAC unit is able to control the optimal temperatures, to provide close and humidity control for the application.”
