MapR integrates Hadoop distribution with Teradata QueryGrid

Comprehensive integration optimises enterprise data architectures.

MapR Technologies has announced the integration of its utility-grade Hadoop distribution architected for real-time, data-centric enterprises with Teradata QueryGrid, providing best-in-class big data analytics across multiple data sets with a single query.

“With tightly integrated software from MapR and Teradata, organisations can create an ‘as-it-happens’ business by gaining instant access to information across the most trusted Hadoop and data warehouse platforms in the market,” said Steve Wooledge, vice president of product marketing, MapR Technologies. “This announcement extends the strategic partnership between both companies, offering our growing base of shared customers closer integration and access to data in the MapR Distribution at query run time.”

The comprehensive integration of the MapR Distribution including Hadoop with Teradata QueryGrid allows customers to offload less-frequently accessed data to Hadoop, query it on the fly, and join it with data in their existing data warehouse. The integration reduces data duplication and allows customers to store and process a larger portion of data on Hadoop for lower overall costs.

“In 2015, the data warehouse market continues its evolution of the past several years and now includes broader data management solutions for analytics. It now supports all types of data for analytics under a coordinated approach that will demand different types of integrated solutions and an interoperable services tier for managing and delivering data,” wrote Mark Beyer and Roxane Edjlali at Gartner. “Data warehouse managers, solution architects for analytics and CIOs establishing IT modernisation strategies must take note of this change in direction, and prepare to meet it with hybrid technology platforms that expand the data warehouse beyond any of the current practices. This is especially important because the influence of the logical data warehouse has created a situation in which multiple repository strategies are now expected, even from a single vendor.”*

“Teradata customers can now enjoy seamless access through a standard SQL interface to their data in the MapR Distribution,” said Chris Twogood, vice president, product and services marketing, Teradata. “MapR provides Hadoop and NoSQL solutions with high performance and reliability, making it an enterprise-grade platform that—when combined with Teradata’s best-in-class data warehousing and discovery platforms—drive analytic innovation and lower total cost of ownership for our joint customers.”
