Proact delivers redundant active data centres to forestry machine manufacturer Ponsse

Europe’s leading independent integrator of integrated systems, Proact, is delivering a data centre solution for Ponsse. Ponsse is among the global industry leaders of manufacturing forestry machines specialising in the cut-to-length method.

Proact is in charge of delivering to Ponsse two redundant data centres both of them running applications simultaneously featuring EMC, VNX and VPLEX technologies. Proact will also take care of installation, data migration and staff training. Ponsse required a solution for a larger storage space with expansion options. The company was also in need of IT-support services that are available 24x7.

“We needed to find a scalable, reliable storage system for storing customer data as well as product data critical to our business operations. The system will also speed up our data processing,” describes Ponsse’s IT Director Arto Haaksluoto.

Ponsse specialises in the manufacturing, sales, maintenance and information systems of forestry machines specialising in the cut-to-length method. The CTL method involves cutting timber on-site in the forest to a suitable length according to its intended use. Ponsse’s IT systems will simultaneously report directly to their customers the type and quantity of the delivered timber. Forestry machines are manufactured in two shifts when the factory is operating at full capacity. This means that any production disruptions will have a direct impact on deliveries to customers.
