Italtel, a leading telecommunications company in next generation networks and services and IP communication, has signed a global agreement for commercial cooperation and industrial collaboration with Tech Mahindra, an India-based multinational company specializing in IT services and solutions.

Under the agreement, Italtel is aiming to significantly expand its IT portfolio and improve its catalogue of products and solutions.

Tech Mahindra is looking to enter the Italian market and will leverage Italtel’s market footprint in the region. Tech Mahindra is worth USD3.2 billion and has more than 92,000 employees across 51 countries. This is the first agreement it has made with an Italian company.

“The agreement with Tech Mahindra is particularly important for us,” said Italtel’s CEO Stefano Pileri. “From an industrial perspective it allows us to accelerate the development of our portfolio and time to market, both crucial factors in a highly competitive market. For a player like us, with a very strong footprint in the network and infrastructure segments, the agreement is intended to expand our presence in IT, a sector which is gaining more and more relevance in regards to the evolution of networks towards virtualization.

“We also want to expand the boundaries of our market activity to new foreign countries. I am confident that each partner will offer to the other the best of its competences and market expertise in order to meet the common objective of growth.”

In regards to the Italian market, Italtel and Tech Mahindra will define an IT product portfolio, including, Operation Support Systems (OSS) and Business Support Systems (BSS), to sell to service providers and enterprises. The agreement will allow Italtel to reinforce its market positioning in the IT sector and Tech Mahindra to connect with all Italian telecom operators and major enterprises, expanding its presence in Italy by acting as a system integrator for Italtel’s solutions.

“The partnership with Italtel is absolutely strategic for Tech Mahindra,” said Sandeep Phadke, Head of Continental Europe at Tech Mahindra. “It comprises two parts; faster product engineering and joint go-to-market for some of the largest strategic customers in Italy. The combination of Italtel and Tech Mahindra is unique in the industry because not only does it bring together Telecommunications and IT, but also a deep understanding of the Italian market.”

At an international level, Italtel will use Tech Mahindra’s global coverage to expand the geographical boundaries of its market activities and increase sales of proprietary products and professional services, particularly in the Europe, APAC and MEA regions.

>From an industrial perspective, Tech Mahindra’s assets and technological capabilities will help improve Italtel products and solutions in terms of features and time to market. Under the agreement, about 40 Italtel employees have been engaged by Tech Mahindra to further expand its presence in the Italian market.

The agreement, which sees the cooperation of two partners operating in telecommunications and IT, positively represents the ongoing convergence of technologies in the communications market.
