Securing operators’ mobile networks against roaming attacks and threats from untrusted networks

Clavister has launched the GRX Security Gateway Solution, which protects operators’ mobile networks from threats and attacks targeting the GPRS Roaming Exchange (GRX) network.

The Clavister GRX Security solution protects MNOs against costly security incidents such as DoS attacks, privacy intrusions and overbilling attacks; issues that can result in substantial financial losses and damage to both brand and business.

Using a combination of encrypted IP Security (IPsec) VPN connections, deep packet inspection (DPI) technologies and behaviour based Intrusion Detection/Prevention (IPS), the Clavister solution secures GRX networks against evasive and sophisticated attacks that are hard to detect using legacy firewalls and commodity solutions.

Jim Carlsson, CEO of Clavister said: “MNOs are exposed to a number of vulnerabilities when interconnecting their networks. Our new solution enables operators to secure their networks and data traffic against unauthorised access, reducing the risk of attacks and ensuring the integrity of users’ data when they are roaming. This boosts trust, improves operational efficiency and in turn protects revenues. Clavister’s next-generation gateways give operators the best platform to meet demands for end-to-end, standards-based security and high performance at scale.”

Other features of the solution include high performance multi-gigabit firewalling, multiple policy and routing tables, and monitoring and log management. The gateway also delivers true carrier-grade performance, scalability and throughput, to accommodate both current and future traffic volumes.

The technology used in the Clavister GRX Security Gateway Solution is extremely flexible and can also be used in a wide variety of applications for telecoms operators and MNOs. This includes its LTE Small Cell Gateway Security / LTE Edge Cloud Security, Intelligent Mobile Data Offloading (IMDO) and its LTE Backhaul Security Gateway (LTE SEG)
