ICTroom, a leading provider of modular data centres, will be building a new ICTroom Modular Datacentre (IMD) in Sittard-Geleen, South-East Netherlands, for Belgian company Cegeka. The new IMD, which represents an investment in excess of ten million Euros (£7.77m), reflects Cegeka’s European ambitions and role as an integrator and provider of cloud services. ICTroom will design, construct and then operate the energy-efficient Tier III data centre, which will become operational in June 2015.
With a scalable structure based on ICTroom’s IMD concept, Cegeka’s new data centre will have an initial IT load capacity of 750 kW with space for up to 160 racks. The site has room to add a number of additional modules and the IMD solution allows for a range of size, power density and tier levels to be built as they are required to support Cegeka’s developing business. The data centre location has been chosen carefully to enable Cegeka to serve customers in Belgium and Germany, as well as the Dutch market.
In May 2014, ICTroom announced that it had been selected to build a 6 Megawatt data centre in the United Kingdom for an internationally renowned IT service provider and this new Cegeka facility will be built using the same modular design. ICTroom’s IMD data centre modules are built using components from technology partners Siemens, GEA and Caterpillar. In particular, the use of GEA’s indirect Air2Air cooling system helps to reduce the cooling system's energy consumption by up to a factor of seven compared to classic cooling methods. The Cegeka site will benefit from the use of solar power to minimise its carbon footprint and will become one of the most efficient data centres in Europe.
ICTroom also announced today that, as part of its continuing international growth plans, it has appointed Matthew Gingell as Marketing Director. A veteran in the ICT, data centre and telecoms markets, Gingell has previously worked for data centre providers including Telecity, Equant and most recently Colt Technology Services, where he was the spokesperson for Colt’s colocation and modular data centre offerings.
Commenting on the contract to provide Cegeka’s new data centre, Gingell said: “This is a great example of how using modular technology from a supplier who knows what they are doing, and with access to best-of-breed components, can bring significant business benefits in terms of cost effectiveness, speed and efficiency. I joined ICTroom precisely because it is a company with the skills, experience and ambition to capitalise on these kinds of opportunity, right across Europe”.
