Having been with RMD for 13 years, Barry Ferguson brings considerable experience and industry contacts. He has worked his way up through the ranks and most recently held responsibility for technical sales. In his new position, Ferguson will manage the sales team and drive its strategy as well as working closely with external marketing, design and PR consultants to promote RMD’s products and services.

Until now, Ross Barclay has worked on the front line, dealing directly with clients as an engineer in the field. Following his promotion, Barclay will be responsible for managing and coordinating all engineering and maintenance jobs, ensuring clients are responded to promptly and efficiently.

“This is a really important time for RMD,” said Gavin Maxwell, managing director. “We recently celebrated our 21st birthday and it marked the coming of age of the company. We have a strong core business of power protection and air conditioning but we are increasingly working on design and build projects for data centres of all sizes. Ross and Barry have been valued colleagues for many years and their input will be incredibly important as we go for growth in 2015.”

Speaking about his new role, Ferguson said: “Our range of products and services has diversified a lot over the last few years so one of my goals is to ensure that customers are aware of the full scope of our capabilities. Data centre infrastructure technology has improved enormously since I started with RMD and often we can provide a solution that the customer may think is difficult or even impossible.”

Talking about the transition from front-line operations to management, Barclay said: “I’ve been at the forefront of operations for 16 years so I’ve got an excellent understanding of what this job requires, both from a client and an employee perspective. This is a challenging transition with a steep learning curve but it’s one that I’m ready to take on.”

RMD’s roots stretch back to 1932 when RM Donaldson opened an electrical shop in Glasgow. Today, RMD can manage every step of the data centre design and build process and is one of only a handful of UK companies with the capacity to supply, install and maintain power protection and cooling for IT. RMD is a trusted partner for organisations across the UK including the NHS, Amazon and HM Prison Service. It recently signed a three-year agreement with Hive Datacentres to expand its specialist data centre design and consultancy services.
