Dell OEM Solutions is working with SynerScope, a startup offering advanced Big Data analysis software, to provide a scalable server-based solution for GPU accelerated analytics, data storage and accessibility.

Founded in 2011 as a high-tech spin-off company of the information visualization group of Eindhoven University, SynerScope aims to help domain experts and analysts make sense of their Enterprise Big Data. The company uses sophisticated software to present massive amounts of data in a way that becomes intuitive with just a few days training. With storage costs decreasing through Enterprise Hadoop, the emergence of the Internet of Things and companies facing a constantly growing mountain of data, it is vital that businesses take the most value from their data. SynerScope is helping to lead the charge by providing companies with a plug-and-play Big Data analytics and Active Discovery solution that can be operational just two or three hours after installation.

SynerScope chose to partner with Dell following the launch of Nvidia’s GRID cards which revolutionized the company’s product. It needed a hardware solution that could house the cards and decided to partner with Dell OEM Solutions as its offering was the most mature and coherent. The company has deployed Dell PowerEdge R730 rack servers with Intel® Xeon® processors, which provide exceptional functionality including powerful processors, large memory, fast storage options and GPU accelerator support, in just 2U of rack space. SynerScope takes the Dell hardware, rebrands it and packages it up as a black box solution that is delivered to the customer within just a few weeks after purchasing. SynerScope also uses the Dell PowerEdge R920 server which is ideal for driving large databases with demanding workloads giving 4-socket performance, scalable memory and powerful IO.

The partnership has also been instrumental in the expansion of the company. Jan-Kees Buenen, CEO of SynerScope explains, “With Dell OEM Solutions we have a partner that we can work with to develop a global go-to-market strategy, accelerating visibility for the brand in countries that we may otherwise have been unable to reach. The multi-country 24-hour hardware support provided by Dell ProSupport for OEM has also been a vital element of this strategy and a much more cost effective solution than attempting to offer this level of support ourselves which is prohibitively expensive for a small company like us.”

“Since partnering with Dell, we have trebled our server-based business year on year so that it now accounts for 85% of our profits. Through our close relationship we can both benefit from developments such as Dell’s new Cloudera+Spark powered appliance and cloud infrastructure so that we can ensure that we’re staying ahead of the competition,” said Jan-Kees Buenen, SynerScope.

“As part of the service to our customers, we are continually looking at how we can provide more than just hardware. Through our Dell ProSupport for OEM and customization services, we can help innovative companies such as SynerScope reach markets that would usually be closed to them, and help them to create their own identity on a Tier 1 hardware platform.” explains Dermot O’Connell, general manager, Dell OEM Solutions EMEA. “Big Data is becoming increasingly important to companies looking to learn more from their data lakes and SynerScope, which is one of the only companies leveraging the virtualization of GPU in the data analytics space, is a great example of how working with a specialist hardware provider such as Dell can help them to gain a real advantage in a competitive marketplace.”
