Monitoring solution for Linux

Halcyon Software has announced the immediate availability of Network Server Suite’s new component, the Linux on Power agent that runs on IBM Power Systems. This new agent will ensure that companies have tighter control of key business processes and ‘mission-critical’ applications running on Linux through continuous monitoring and automatic management. Halcyon’s new monitoring technology meets the requirements of organisations deploying Linux on IBM Power Systems to give greater scalability, reducing ’server sprawl‘ and infrastructure costs, particularly for large data centres and managed service providers (MSPs) with cloud-based offerings.

According to Carole Chandler, Sales and Marketing Director of Halcyon Software: “We have taken note of IBM’s commitment to the Linux platform with a billion dollar investment made in September 2013. This Linux on Power agent was created by Halcyon to enable IBM Power Systems users to easily add Linux applications and standardise the native monitoring and management of all infrastructure and IT processes without requiring Linux command line experience.”

The new Linux on Power agent enhances Halcyon’s Network Server Suite, which already includes a Linux on Intel agent, as an optional plug-in module. Network Server Suite, is a leading monitoring and automation solution that supports Windows, AIX and Linux operating systems. It ensures maximum availability of critical servers, applications, processes, services and network devices to maintain business operations around the clock.

The software is shipped with the Halcyon Enterprise Console, which provides the IT team with a point and click, single view of all alerts across the whole enterprise from any platform, including SNMP enabled devices. Automatic alerts can be also be sent to staff by email or SMS and a free Halcyon ‘app’ for Apple and Android smartphones or tablets provides a mobile view of the console enabling IT staff to remotely manage systems.

Organisations with resident Linux specialists will also benefit from this new agent, which enables existing scripts to be embedded and run automatically via the powerful Script Monitor. This not only provides a way to effectively harness the power of these scripts but also reduces the dependence on individual members of staff to meet business continuity planning requirements.

Industry standard ‘best practice’ rule-based templates are also included, enabling the software to be quickly and effectively deployed so that the recommended Power Linux metrics are monitored from day one.

Full integration into Halcyon Software’s Advanced Reporting Suite allows a wide range of preconfigured reports to be generated for single and multi-platform environments. Web-based, automated, self-service reporting also enables the creation of customised reports in seconds to meet specific business requirements without requiring Linux expertise.

“The Linux on Power agent supports Halcyon’s position as a leading innovator and our commitment to delivering reliable and robust solutions for monitoring and managing critical IT systems on which business depends,” added Chandler. “It also ensures that our products continue to meet the evolving needs of IBM clients, managed service providers and data centres.”
