MapR Technologies adds offices in the Netherlands

Extends presence to help Dutch organisations benefit from Hadoop-based technologies.

MapR Technologies, Inc. has opened its first offices in the Netherlands to extend its presence in the EMEA region. The company also signed a partnership agreement with Anchormen to broaden consulting and MapR training services in the region.

MapR has hired Hugo Karelse to lead expansion in the, Benelux countries. Karelse joins MapR following senior roles within several big data technology groups at Oracle. His responsibilities will include executing go-to-market strategies, driving sales and working with local partners to continue growth within the region.
Anchormen is a Dutch agile software development specialist focused on projects harnessing Hadoop and other big data technologies. The company has built a strong reputation in completing challenging projects for customers, including those for LexisNexis BIS (member of Reed Elsevier), Louwman Group and Mitsubishi Motor Sales. In addition to comprehensive consultancy services, Anchormen offers a full range of training courses on the MapR platform across design, implementation and real-world use cases.

“Big data adoption is growing quickly in the Netherlands and the timing is right to partner with MapR and help deliver the full potential of Hadoop to this audience,” says Rutger Wetzels, managing partner of Anchormen. “MapR is easy to integrate and use and allows us to run standard Java applications while benefiting from the distributed file system. In addition, we can choose to use MapReduce or not, and this freedom of choice and multitude of opportunities is only available in the MapR Distribution. MapR gives us the flexibility to select the best suitable technique and methods to address our customers’ challenges.”

“MapR is excited to expand our commitment to customers and partners in the region to help tackle big data challenges,” said Patrik Svanström, VP EMEA, MapR Technologies. “Hugo brings a great deal of expertise to MapR and our partnership with Anchormen underscores our commitment to work with experienced and credible organisations.”
