Brand-Rex opens European Research & Development Laboratory

Brand-Rex has opened a new European Research & Development laboratory as part of an ongoing technology investment programme. The new facility will house the expanded research and development, design and test engineering teams.

With the introduction of new networking technologies such as 40Gb/s Category 8 copper cabling, 40/100 Gb/s fibre and 400Gb/s fibre, ever more complex design and test equipment is required to support research and development.

It’s the vision and expertise of our technology teams that keeps us at the forefront of the data networking industry. The opening of the new Research & Development laboratory will ensure the team continue to access the very best facilities and equipment as they drive to lead the industry and challenge convention.”


As operating frequencies increase to support 40Gb/s Category 8 operations and networking moves even further into the realms of Radio Frequency (RF). The new 3D multiphysics simulation modelling equipment coupled with the latest network analysis technology will ensure transmission lines are on target to meet future infrastructure demands.


In the optical arena where loss budgets are so tight even a fraction of a dB is critical, new state of the art multi-port optical test platforms will allow Brand-Rex technologists to precision measure key network characteristics such as attenuation, return loss and insertion loss to exceed the stringent performance demands of 40G, 100G networks and beyond.


The upgrade to the 3D printing suite will form the centrepiece of the expanded rapid-prototyping facility, and will increase the speed at which bespoke customer specific requirements can be evaluated and realised.


The new facility will offer an extensive range of capabilities such as electrical and radio frequency performance analysis, PCB design simulation, advanced simulation modelling and testing, materials development and testing, fire performance testing, mechanical, physical and reliability testing, carbon footprint and sustainability assessments, and complex optical performance analysis.


R&D Laboratory manager Kennedy Miller said, “The new advanced laboratories will ensure that we continue to stay at the forefront of the data networking industry, in terms of technology and product quality whilst continuing to lead the industry world-wide in environmental and ecology terms”.
