Mirantis launches hands-on OpenStack certification

New certification examination allows IT professionals to showcase their practical experience managing and operating cloud operations within an OpenStack environment.

Mirantis has announced a new OpenStack certification offering: MCA200 Professional Certification. Through real-world hands-on testing, students awarded this Professional Certification by Mirantis will have demonstrated a proficient and thorough understanding of how to create, configure and manage operations within an OpenStack environment.

“The demand for highly-skilled OpenStack engineers is rapidly growing,” said Lee Xie, Head of Training, Mirantis. “With industry research indicating that the cloud marketplace is expected to grow at four times the rate of the overall worldwide Information Technology market, individuals with OpenStack experience must find new ways to highlight their expertise. Our newest Professional Certification is an ideal way for those individuals to showcase their proficiency with OpenStack”.

Mirantis OpenStack Administrator Professional Certification grows on the popular Associate Level certification MCA100 launched earlier in 2013. MCA100, already achieved by hundreds of IT professionals around the world, measures an individual’s OpenStack knowledge through a multiple choice examination. Available at the Kryterion test centers (750+ locations worldwide), this Associate Certification is designed to test an individual’s knowledge of OpenStack environments, theory, best practices and troubleshooting.

Similarly to other certifications and training by Mirantis, OpenStack Administrator Professional Level (MCA200) is vendor-agnostic certification. This hands-on exam is available to every student attending the OpenStack Bootcamp by Mirantis. The examination will be made available the day following the conclusion of the bootcamp, directly at the training facility.

"The OpenStack administrator certification (MCA200) exam was a hands-on exam focusing on the practical usage and administration of OpenStack. The OpenStack bootcamp covered all that is required to do well in the exam,” says Watsh Rajneesh, Staff Software Engineer at Brocade. “I had a pleasant experience in taking this exam and I found it to be very useful in re-enforcing what we learned during the training sessions. I would highly recommend getting this certification done together with the OpenStack bootcamp training."

The hands-on certification examination is available to any student who has participated in a Mirantis Bootcamp, or an IT professional who has practical OpenStack experience. Currently, the examinations are made available the day following the conclusion of a Mirantis 3-Day bootcamp. Students attending the OpenStack Bootcamp have the option to bundle the training and certification examination together.
