Utilitywise and Onyx team up to improve energy efficiency

Energy management company Utilitywise has been called in by Onyx Group to improve energy efficiency at the data centre and IT infrastructure specialists.

Onyx Group is currently celebrating its 20th Anniversary and is now one of the leading providers of IT infrastructure and support services across the UK. The company has five large data centres located around the UK that use around 15 megawatts of energy each year. Onyx Group approached Utilitywise to identify the most efficient energy use and energy procurement to assist the continued growth of the company.

The two companies also share an affinity as successful companies that were established in the North East and run by award-winning CEOs. Geoff Thompson, CEO of Utilitywise, was named the 2013 Emerging Entrepreneur of the Year at the Ernst and Young (EY) North of England Awards. While CEO of Onyx Group Neil Stephenson, who attended last year’s regional ceremony, reached the national final of the Ernst and Young Entrepreneur of the Year after winning the regional final in October 2009.

CEO of Onyx Group Neil Stephenson said: “We’re in an industry that uses a lot of energy, so it made sense to bring in energy consultants to advise on how we can reduce our energy consumption. We want to give our customers the best possible service at the right cost, which means offering exceptional service that is energy efficient. We have a lot in common with Utilitywise and they were the only company we wanted to work with on this aspect of our business.”

To improve energy efficiency at Onyx Group, Utilitywise will install their latest digital platform, Utility Insight, that gives unprecedented insight and clarity into the way companies uses energy and water. Utility Insight converts data from utility meters, sub-meters and monitoring systems into easy-to-understand information that can be viewed on any computer with web access.

Utilitywise will also provide retrospective and ongoing bill checking, flexible energy procurement and fixed price energy deals that are secured at the right time to achieve the best energy deal available.

Geoff Thompson, CEO of Utilitywise, said: “We’re delighted to be working with Onyx Group who have a fantastic reputation in their industry and within the business community. It’s also a pleasure to be working with such an exceptional CEO as Neil Stephenson who has had tremendous success at his company.”

On the need for companies to improve their energy efficiency, Geoff Thompson said: “Those who control their energy use can become more competitive than their rivals. This is especially true in today’s economic climate where energy remains a major cost. Utilitywise is here to advise companies on how to procure and use energy in the most cost-effective way.”

Businesses large and small rely on Utilitywise for their power, gas and water management needs with almost every sector of business. Clients range in size from single site high street shops to multinationals with thousands of sites and cover the whole of the UK, Ireland, France and Germany.
