Hortonworks acquires XA Secure

Acquisition provides Hortonworks Data Platform customers with the industry’s broadest security capabilities for Enterprise Hadoop.

Hortonworks® has acquired XA Secure, a leading data security company, to accelerate its delivery of a holistic and centralized approach to Hadoop security. Hortonworks will immediately begin incorporating the XASecure technology into the Hortonworks Data Platform (HDP) while also transitioning the solution to an open Apache community project.

Since driving the release of YARN in Hadoop 2, Hortonworks has become the industry standard for enterprises ready to place multiple types of workloads under management in Hadoop at scale. As part of meeting the broader enterprise IT requirements for a data lake architecture, Hortonworks set out to deliver a comprehensive, centralized approach to security administration and ensures consistent policy and audit for compliance across all workloads. Today’s alternative Hadoop security offerings only address a subset of these requirements. The acquisition of XA Secure provides Hortonworks with key technology and engineering expertise to quickly deliver on this industry direction for Hadoop security.

Founded in 2012, XA Secure provides an enterprise ready, cross-platform, security layer built from the ground up for Hadoop, providing centralized capabilities around data security, authorization, auditing and overall governance.
