Geo Networks extends London Metro network

14.5km extension brings dedicated fibre to London’s biggest growth centre.

Geo Networks Ltd (Geo) has announced a significant extension of its metro infrastructure to Croydon, South London. The 14.5km expansion will connect Geo’s optical fibre network to London’s largest development centre, enhancing services to existing customers and providing dedicated fibre to new businesses investing in Croydon.


Croydon is set to become London’s biggest growth centre with more than £3bn worth of investment in the next five years. As one of the biggest mixed use urban revitalisation projects in Europe, the scheme will include 2.8msqft Grade A office space, attracting organisations from already established sectors such as financial services and engineering, while supporting the fastest growing tech cluster within London.


“We see Croydon as an area with huge potential for Geo,” said Chris Smedley, Chief Executive at Geo. “It is already home to a number of major organisations and we think that there will be significant further growth in Croydon’s digital economy over the next decade. By extending Geo’s network to Croydon, we are able to connect businesses in this area to all the other critical data clusters across the UK and Ireland which we already connect, and support their current and future business requirements for high performance data networks.”


A significant part of the high fibre count route will be deployed in London’s sewer system, connecting customers directly to the City and Docklands. Onward connectivity to Slough, Manchester and other parts of the UK and Ireland can be provisioned over Geo’s national network and the East-West Ring, the only diverse high fibre-count ring connecting Dublin and the UK.
