Emerson Network Power has announced its commitment to delivering greener data centre technology standards, as a leading member of the Product Environmental Footprint (PEF) pilot, led by the European Commission.
As the PEF pilot strives towards ‘Building the Single Market for Green Products’, it aims to define common calculation rules to assess the environmental impact of products brought to market, bringing together stakeholders across the continent in a three year testing phase. This work is based on the new European Union PEF method adopted by the Commission in 2013 (2013/179/EU).
Through its proven expertise and market knowledge Emerson Network Power, alongside other industry members, forms a key part of the PEF subgroup which is working towards delivering greener Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) data centre technologies. Selected products will be submitted to test the PEF’s method, and during the pilot period Emerson Network Power will implement product performance benchmarks and work with partners and stakeholders to set up and validate effective and efficient compliance and verification systems. These will be communicated across the company, to enable employees to raise awareness among its customer base.
Emerson’s pledge to the PEF marks its wider commitment towards cultivating holistic technology solutions, designed to maximise availability, efficiency and capacity within the data centre environment. Businesses of today need to ensure that they are offering unprecedented levels of reliability and flexibility to customers, as well as real-time scalability of services in response to demand. In addition to maintaining customer operations, businesses also need to contend with ever-evolving governmental regulations and industry standards which are continually seeking to improve energy efficiency. Emerson Network Power aims to deliver the next generation of data centre solutions that address all elements of the increasingly complex nature of customer infrastructures.
“As a leading UPS manufacturer, Emerson Network Power has a responsibility to be at the forefront in forging the way for the future, as the industry collectively seeks to achieve standardisation across Europe,” said Franco Costa, vice president and general manager, Power Systems, Emerson Network Power in Europe, Middle East and Africa. “Our involvement with the European Commission’s PEF scheme cements our commitment in bringing products to the market which meet evolving industry standards, while continuing to best meet customer needs – an ethos which has long been in practice in product innovation across our business.”
