Intelligent Power Manager 1.40 software strengthens Eaton’s integration capabilities with Cisco Unified Computing System™ server management, allowing IT managers to prioritise and predetermine a power consumption limit for each server in order to extend battery runtime during power events. It also integrates with the VMware® vSphere 5.5® virtualisation platform to offer even more flexibility for small-to-medium data centres and network closet environments, and is the first power management software to integrate directly with VMware’s new web client.
“Eaton continues to lead the way in power management software innovation, with solutions engineered to provide enhanced business value through integration with major converged infrastructure platforms,” said Rory Higgins, Software Product Manager, Eaton. “Covering computing, network, software and storage, Eaton’s Intelligent Power Manager allows users to manage their entire power infrastructure remotely through leading virtualisation platforms and to establish a comprehensive power management strategy.”
Eaton’s Intelligent Power Manager software is a powerful and versatile tool for managing IT installations and offers a wide range of essential functions. These include providing a comprehensive overview of UPS status and performance, and ensuring that all UPS-powered devices are shut down in an orderly way when necessary. It also provides power event notifications and alarms, and can react automatically to power events by triggering the shutdown of external systems. Eaton’s Intelligent Power Manager software also stores records of power events and UPS data, which are invaluable when debugging power problems.
Because power protection and management are as vital for virtual machines as they are for physical servers, Eaton’s Intelligent Power Manager software features extensive monitoring and management capabilities for virtualised environments. Compatible with VMware’s ESXi and vSphere, as well as with Microsoft’s Hyper-V platform, Intelligent Power Manager enables the graceful shutdown of multiple virtual machines and hypervisors. Because of its tight integration with virtual machine management solutions like vCenter, SCVMM and XenCenter, Intelligent Power Manager also facilitates the delivery of zero application downtime during live migration of virtual machines in the event of a power failure.
