DCIM customer achieves ROI in 13 months

Customer captures $1.6 million in total benefits using DCIM.

Emerson Network Power says that a Total Economic Impact (TEI) study found that Emerson’s data centre infrastructure management (DCIM) platform can achieve 100 per cent return on investment (ROI) in just 13 months. According to Emerson, The Total Economic Impact™ of the Emerson DCIM Solution is the first published DCIM payback analysis.

The commissioned study, conducted by Forrester Consulting on behalf of Emerson, examined the TEI and potential ROI of deploying DCIM by using Emerson Network Power’s ROI tool. Forrester interviewed twelve Emerson customers, who shared the data needed to develop the tool. A global bank customer, with offices in the Middle East, Europe, Asia, Australia and the U.S., was selected for analysis using the ROI tool and was featured in a case study report. The customer had three data centres including one for disaster recovery, for a total of 6,135 square feet. The ROI analysis found that, altogether, the customer captured $1.6 million in total benefits in three years.

Increasing availability for critical systems was a primary goal for this customer, and DCIM enabled them to increase availability 20 hours per year, capturing more than $1.2 million in downtime-related costs over the three-year period. Furthermore, the customer saved more than five hours a day through centralised management of its three data centres. Remote management saved almost $39,000 a year and allowed the customer to build out a new data centre while saving time as well as expenses of nearly $95,000. The customer saved an additional 45 minutes a day managing the data centre layout and planning for multiple requests that occur each day, which saved the company an estimated $11,000 per year in productivity. Also among the top benefits, Emerson’s DCIM solution reduced power consumption and related energy costs by $10,600 per year.

“We have always known that our DCIM solutions would bring significant savings and value to customers, and now we have a study that validates these benefits with one of our leading global customers,” said Steve Hassell, president of Emerson Network Power’s Data Center Solutions business. “We are excited about the quick ROI and cost savings this customer achieved. And, Emerson Network Power also can use the Forrester-developed tool to provide potential DCIM customers a similar analysis in order to justify DCIM expenditures.”
