“Thanks to their ability to reduce power consumption without sacrificing reliability, our 9PX UPSs, which recently achieved ENERGY STAR qualification in recognition of their outstanding energy efficiency, have already become exceedingly popular,” said Christophe Jammes, Product Manager, Eaton. “Now the ability to operate two of these innovative units in parallel has further increased their versatility, making their undoubted benefits available to an even broader spectrum of users.”
Parallel configured 9PX UPSs use Eaton’s unique Hot Sync technology, which allows them to operate in parallel without the need for inter-unit communications. This eliminates the single point of failure inherent in traditional parallel configurations based on master-slave technology, and thereby maximises availability.
To allow parallel operation of its 9PX UPSs, Eaton offers two ModularEasy units – one for use with 5 and 6 kVA UPSs, the other for 8 and 11 kVA UPSs. These units, which operate as tie cabinets, tie together the input and output connections of the UPSs and also incorporate a maintenance bypass function. ModularEasy units are available separately for use in existing installations, or can be purchased as part of complete package that includes two UPSs, a ModularEasy unit, two network cards and mounting accessories.
New 9PX UPSs will be supplied ready for parallel operation from mid-April onwards. For existing units in the range, a simple firmware upgrade is all that is needed to add this feature.
