The need to run these next-generation services over the University’s local area network (LAN), coupled with personal access broadband and mobile Internet with increased video traffic driven by student demand, meant a further upgrade of existing equipment was not viable. Instead, the University embarked on its most comprehensive network deployment in eight years and selected Juniper Networks solutions based on the value of a single operating system running across platforms, high-performance security capabilities and technical innovation for the future.

Successful in-house testing and superior technology performance: Oxford Brookes carried out rigorous testing of Juniper Networks® EX Series Ethernet Switches and SRX Series Services Gateways platforms. The EX4550 Ethernet Switch was singled out as a solid foundation upon which to build the network, as it supports Juniper’s unique Virtual Chassis technology, which enables up to 10 interconnected switches to operate as a single, logical device.

Integrated security: The SRX3600 Services Gateway is a next-generation security platform that delivers market-leading performance, scalability and service integration, enabling Oxford Brookes University to deploy consistent, campus-wide security for multiple media types, as well as to secure wired and wireless communications.

Single management interface: Juniper Networks Junos Space Network Director provides a single tool for managing all wired network devices, users and services, eliminating the need for multiple applications to manage the network.
